Getting Ready
WEATHER
September temperatures average a high of 26ºC/ 78ºF and a low of 15°C/ 59°F, usually in the evening. However note that average temperatures drop gradually as we reach the end of the month.
Expect sunny, blue skies during the day and cool clear evenings. Please note that we will often be meeting and eating outdoors.
And you’ll be able to sunbath and swim should you choose.
DECIDING WHAT CLOTHES TO BRING
Comfort: Casual, comfortable clothes are recommended. Feel free to wear what gives you pleasure and joy. Bring your active-wear for relaxing and for moving around, like walks or morning stretching.
Dressing up: For the most part we will be dining at the villa, with a visit to a Minoan-inspired restaurant in the city of Heraklion one evening but after a warm day walking around the archaeological site of Knossos. Dress for the restaurant is casual and you can bring a change of clothes if you’d like to change from your day wear (however this is optional and not necessary).
Walking: We will spend time outdoors each day. Please bring comfortable walking shoes to enjoy the trails in the gentle hills around the property and the hillier cobble stoned streets of some of the nearby villages.
Pool: There is a beautiful, heated pool on property for swimming and lounging around.
What will be provided:
Pool towels
Bath towels
Linen and towels change - every 3/4 days
Hairdryer
Shampoo/Conditioner/Soap
CURRENCY / PAYMENT OPTIONS
Most shops and restaurants in the towns and cities of Crete accept card but cash payments are often preferred. Travel cards that give you free cash withdrawals and let you take out the money in Euros without converting will save you a lot in fees.
A “contactless (sans contact)” or “tap” credit card (or load them to Apple Pay) makes things easier. If asked, it is generally in your favour to be charged in the currency of the country you are visiting (Euros) as opposed to the converted rate (which will use an exchange rate that favours the seller.)
The only additional expense, once you have arrived on the property will be dinner out and an afternoon of shopping in the small town of Margaritas.
SIM CARDS/mobile PHONE
Travelling with roaming charges can sometimes be restrictive. You may wish to consider a SIM card. While there are many options to choose from, please be sure to read the policy for overages and for automatic contract renewals.
Power ADAPTORS
You will need to bring a power plug adapter to fit a UK plug in a Greek power outlet.
You can bring an adaptor with you or buy one at any large airport.
Like the UK the standard voltage in Greece is 230 V and the frequency is 50Hz. So you do not need a power converter for items from the UK, just a plug adapter for the Greek power outlet.
Travellers from North America where there is a lower voltage of usually 120 V and a frequency of 60 Hz, or any other countries where the voltage is different to the above might need a converter. However, check the electricity information on your appliance or electronic device. Many American appliances are set up to work within a voltage and frequency range rather than on a single voltage so you may not need to buy anything.
For Greece there are two associated plug types, types C and F. Greece uses type F sockets will accept both C and F plugs.
COVID TESTS
These are no longer necessary at the moment and will not be required.
